A Bath Room

For a bathroom renovation, MSTMA considered the elemental role the room plays in our lives and the way it facilitates rituals of self-care.

Dark slate covers the floor and wraps upward onto the wall, where it culminates in a narrow terrazzo ledge, inviting users to perceive the room as a single, large tub. The tiles, organized into an anti-pattern that undermines the material’s solidity, also conceal a floor drain that removes worries about splashing or spilling. Fine-grained plaster walls contrast the rougher texture of the stone underfoot, while an ultra-smooth cylinder of nylon, custom designed and made by MSTMA, holds the showerhead at the perfect distance from the wall.
